Keep your location sharing while you drive
When your phone stops sharing your location, your passenger's map freezes — the car sits still on their screen while you're actually moving. They can't tell if you're coming. Three habits and one setting fix it for good.
Do this on every trip
- 1
Keep ZIP.GY on top of the screen
Your location is only shared while ZIP.GY is the app in front. The moment you switch to WhatsApp, Facebook or Google Maps, sharing stops.
- 2
Use the Navigate button inside ZIP.GY
It gives you turn-by-turn directions on the same screen, so you never have to leave the app to find your way.
- 3
Don't let the screen sleep mid-trip
A locked screen stops location sharing on most phones. Keep the screen awake until the trip is complete.
Why it matters to you
A passenger watching a frozen map calls to ask where you are, or cancels and takes another car. Your live position is also what measures the real distance you drove — which is what your fare top-up is calculated from at the end of the trip.
On Android
- 1
Turn off battery saving for ZIP.GY
Settings → Apps → ZIP.GY (or Chrome, if you use the website) → Battery → choose Unrestricted. This is the setting that stops your phone quietly shutting the app down while you drive.
- 2
Allow location all the time
Settings → Apps → ZIP.GY → Permissions → Location → allow while using the app, and turn on Precise location.
- 3
Turn on high accuracy
Settings → Location → Location services → Google Location Accuracy on. Without it your position can be off by streets.
On iPhone
- 1
Allow location and precise location
Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → ZIP.GY (or Safari) → While Using the App, and switch Precise Location on.
- 2
Turn Low Power Mode off while working
Settings → Battery → Low Power Mode off. In Low Power Mode the iPhone slows background work down, and your location is part of that.
- 3
Don't lock the screen mid-trip
iPhone stops sharing location almost immediately once the screen locks. Keep the screen on with ZIP.GY in front while you drive.
Still showing as frozen?
Close ZIP.GY completely and open it again, then check the map moves as you drive. If it still doesn't, tell us — we'll look at your trips.
